Roper Hospital
in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Melissa Gravano
Roper Hospital in Charleston,
SC, is presenting an exhibit of graphite drawings by Lowcounty
artist, Melissa Gravano, on view in the hospital's admitting hallway,
through Oct. 31, 2010.
Included in this exhibit will be portraits of the youth at Colleton
Middle School in Walterboro, SC, who Gravano mentors on art. "I
see the vulnerability that at times is hidden by a tough exterior.
At other times it is not hidden at all. I see their beauty and
their strength and I'm not convinced that they are aware of it.
I want to bring it to the surface for others and the students
themselves to see."
Gravano studied at The Cooper Union School of Art in New York City and at Southampton College at Long Island University. Her work was included in the 25th and 26th annual Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibit, and was featured in the Post and Courier's Charleston Scene as Artist of the Week, May 20th, 2010.
