Sunset River
Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Offers Works by Sterling Edwards
Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, will present the exhibit, Acrylic Abstracts, featuring a collection of recent works by Sterling Edwards, on view from Sept. 20 through Oct. 30, 2010. The exhibition consists entirely of acrylic and mixed media abstract expressionism on canvas.
The Hendersonville,
NC, artist is internationally known for his watercolor paintings,
which range from traditional to abstract. He is the author of
the book, Creating Luminous Watercolor Landscapes, a Four Step
Process, published by F+W Publishing. Edwards is also the
designer of a signature set of watercolor brushes and a signature
watercolor palette that are marketed internationally. His award-winning
paintings are in private collections all over the world.
In 2008, Edwards was awarded a signature membership in the prestigious
Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and in 2010 he was
awarded a signature membership in the esteemed Transparent Watercolor
Society of America. Though he was originally trained as an oil
painter, he specializes in water-based media, specifically watercolors
and acrylics.
According to Edwards, having the flexibility to work in several mediums and styles has helped him mature as an artist. Combining his knowledge of color and design, he has spent years making the transition from a representational artist to an abstract artist. Most of Edwards' abstract paintings are personal interpretations of things he has seen or places he has ventured.
As an abstract expressionist,
Edwards relies on expressive brushwork and spatial division to
convey a sense of energy in his paintings. When combined with
multiple layers of pigment and rich value contrasts a thought-provoking
painting emerges that is a unique interpretation by the artist.
