Mica, the Fine Contemporary Craft Gallery in Bakersville, NC, Features Works by Margaret Couch Cogswell
Mica, the Fine Contemporary Craft Gallery in Bakersville, NC, will present Simply, Margaret Couch Cogswell – New Work, on view from Sept. 28 through Nov. 24, 2013. A reception will be held on Sept. 28, from 5-8pm.
Cogswell, a native of Charlotte, NC, and a current resident of Asheville, NC, returns to the area for a showing of her newest work. Cogswell, a 1981 graduate of Rhodes College, has also attended Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Rhode Island School of Design and was a resident artist at Penland School of Crafts from 2008 – 2011. Also to her credit, Lark Books recently published her first book entitled, Book Play: Creative Adventures in Handmade Books. Many Mitchell/Yancey county residents who have watched her work over the years will welcome her.
Cogswell’s craft, an act of storytelling through whimsical imagery, gives a rich texture and eloquence to those supposed insignificant moments in life. The viewer will find a smile of understanding slowly creeping from within, and leave feeling truly touched by her joyful hand. Whether employing weaving, ceramic, fabric collage, artist books, sculpture or painting, the result is rich and rewarding when fully explored. Her animals draw you in with a childlike innocence and charm your sense of familiarity.
Come meet the artist and truly experience your special moment with Cogswell’s remarkable imagination.
